TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia will host the 10th Miss Grand International in October 2022 in Bali and Jakarta. Different from before, this year’s organization is carried out without a swimsuit show. Instead, the contestants will wear sportswear with an Indonesian touch.
Ivan Gunawan, National Director of Miss Grand Indonesia, said that the decision had been accepted by Miss Grand International Organization (MGIO) even though there was a tug-of-war.
“I’m a public figure, so I don’t want netizens to take the opportunity to comment on it. I also grew up in Indonesia, I understand the norms in Indonesia even though Indonesia is not an Islamic country, but our eastern culture is very strong,” Ivan was met at the Indolima agency’s anniversary celebration at Le Meridien Hotel, Jakarta, Monday, August 15, 2022.
So, when offered to host the show, Ivan said that in Indonesia, he couldn’t organize a swimsuit show on stage, even in Bali. “If you are a swim queen, you must wear a swimsuit, but if you are on stage, I said from the beginning that you can’t have swimsuits.”
The swimsuit contest will be replaced with sportswear. For this costume, Yayasan Dunia Mega Bintang, which holds the Miss Grand Indonesia license, collaborated with two big names in the Indonesian fashion industry, Didiet Maulana, and Iwan Tirta. “So this is specially designed by designers with Indonesian characteristics,” Ivan added.
The Miss Grand International pageant will be held from October 4 to 25, 2022. In Bali, it will be held on October 4-14, after which it will go to Jakarta from October 14-25. Representatives from 75 countries will attend the contest. The Mega Bintang World Foundation is collaborating with Indolima as an event organizer for this event.
Miss Grand Indonesia Andina Julie will represent Indonesia. The 21-year-old was appointed by Ivan Gunawan directly as a replacement for the previous Miss Grand Indonesia, Sophia Rogan.
At the upcoming pageant, Andina will wear the national costume Reog Ponorogo. The costume will be made by two designers, one of whom is Inggi Kendran, a young designer from Bali famous for her magnificent carnival costumes.
In addition, she will wear a variety of dresses from 15 Indonesian designers, including Ghea Panggabean, Eko Tjandra, Rinaldy Yunardi, and Ivan Gunawan himself.
In 2021, Miss Grand Indonesia Sophia Rogan entered the top 10 of Miss Grand International, and in 2020, Aurra Kharisma was the third runner-up.
